My journey in esports
Ever since I emigrated to South Africa from Zimbabwe, I have been deeply in love with eSports and playing video games in general. It all started in 2017 when Fortnite launched and I had just moved to South Africa in the November/December of the year and I was just mesmerized.
How it began, my esports career?

Ever since I emigrated to South Africa from Zimbabwe, I have been deeply in love with eSports and playing video games in general. It all started in 2017 when Fortnite launched and I had just moved to South Africa in the November/December of the year and I was just mesmerized. I wish I could have started gaming on a custom built, water cooled PC like Ninja, Myth or SypherPK ,but that just didn't happen.
Well fortunately I had my mom's work computer to play on and I didn't really know the quality could be better at the time as I was a newbie in online gaming.
I mean I didn't even have good latency and I made it worse by playing on NA servers where I had what appeared to be 400ms ping, if you're a gamer you already know how bad that is ,but I still had fun. I actually got to watch the Fortnite: Marshmello event and Fortnite: Rocket Launch event, which were both unheard of at the time, they were really good.
2019

The following year my mom bought us a Playstation which was game changing, I'm still grateful for that. I actually ended up buying NBA2K18 on it at a heavily discounted price as it was the year after it launched and I grinded my MyPlayer game mode which was surreal for me, I really did feel like I was the player.
Even more I don't remember a lot of the things that I did in my early days of high school ,but I remember all the late nights queuing up for Fortnite matches and just grinding the game with friends.
2020

Okay with the next year I don't know how to feel about it. It was the perfect year to have the second Fortnite: World Cup ,but that was cancelled and instead replaced by the FNCS, which was a big hit. This year we had the Fortnite: Astro-world event which was oodles of fun, my friends and I actually missed the first airing of it because of a technical bug ,but we ended up watching it the following morning.
This year was also a favorite of mine as Among Us, the game I had been playing in 2018 back when my friends refused to play it with me, blew up. So this was in August and I had external exams coming up in less than 3 months, my IGCSE exams, so I had been chilling in my bed late in the afternoon when I got a lot of notifications on my phone. At first I tried to ignore them ,but then I got a phone call. When I answered it it was one my friends saying Joe download Among Us and join our discord we need one more.
I did as they asked and we had so much fun. It was really cool seeing the indie company I had loved since day one finally get its flowers.
2021

This was my second year doing online school and my friends and I started to play the hottest game at the time, during a Fortnite downtime, Rocket League and we didn't just treat this like any other game, we wanted to win.
This was kind of like in 2020 when I copied UnknownXArmy's keybinds to win more in the FNCS events ,but this time it was the RLCS so we started watching RLCS pros in teams like Space Station Gaming, NRG and Dignitas, my favorite being NRG, I mean the org was also popping off in Fortnite so it only made sense.
It was this year that I finally watched the Game Awards for 2018 and 2019 and I loved that Fortnite got and won some nominations at the event in those years.
Now

I didn't do much this year, 2022, as I finally dropped out of high school for personal reasons so I had a lot of time to grind my favorite games. I mean I always thought I was going to drop out ,but not in high school, that shook me too. Now that I was free I could just game all day right? No, it was this year that I was motivated to do something in the realm of esports or content creation.
To list a few of my unprofitable ventures some of which I tried to get funding for in 2022 look below:
Marslix.com - ASMR audio streaming site, I failed to get my AppStore and PlayStore accounts approved after spending ~$125.
ChicagoSimply.com - a Chicago-based blog, initially I blogged about ASMR like around 30 blog posts then I started to blog about Chicago, my favorite megalopolis. I bought Wordpress Pro and All In One Seo Pro as well as a domain so I lost ~ $412.00.
Marslix.com (re-do) - South African content creator merchandise online store. This set me back by ~ $3.00 over 3 months.
Saga Clan - a Pan-African eSports team, needs funding to launch, hasn't failed yet.
Tauraux - an invoice factoring made digital solution, failed to get capital to kick it off
Right now I just want to go straight to the source, to my passion to launch an eSports team. So far I've sent 100+ cold emails and it's either no response or a "We don't invest directly into esports teams" response.
Overrall, it's been a good five years for me.
